What the Xarelto Ads Don’t Tell You

You’ve no doubt seen television ads with celebrities and sports stars extolling the virtues of the blood thinner Xarelto. What these ads don’t tell you, however, is that the drug has been linked to severe – and sometimes even fatal – complications.

A Brief History of Xarelto

Xarelto is the brand name of the drug Rivaroxaban. Bayer manufactures the drug and Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals markets it in the U.S. The drug gained U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in 2011 and has generated billions of dollars in revenue.

The drug is designed to reduce the risk of blood clots in patients with atrial fibrillation, or “afib” as it is referred to in the ads. This is a potentially deadly condition that results in a rapid heart rate that can significantly reduce the flow of blood throughout the body, often leading to a stroke.

However, there have been several serious health complications linked to Xarelto. For example, many patients using the drug have experienced uncontrolled bleeding events. If someone taking the drug suffers some sort of internal or external trauma, or suffers some other type of problem that leads to significant bleeding, there is no antidote to stop that bleeding. As a result, major organs such as the kidneys, brain or lungs can lose their ability to function.

Other dangerous side effects associated with Xarelto include:

  • Brain hemorrhages
  • Liver damage
  • Abdominal hemorrhages

Fighting Back Through Legal Action

Thousands of people across the country have sued Bayer and Johnson & Johnson, alleging that the companies manufactured and marketed Xarelto without properly warning either the public or healthcare providers about the potential risks. There are several reasons for these lawsuits, such as:

  • Emotional distress due to caring for someone suffering from a health complication linked to Xarelto
  • Financial hardships due to lost wages, medical care and other expenses associated with medical complications
  • Funeral expenses, emotional anguish and other damages suffered due to the loss of a loved one
You may be able to file a Xarelto lawsuit if you or someone close to you experienced health complications after using the drug. Please complete our contact form to contact Baron & Budd online or give us a call at 866-795-8339 to learn more.
