Pharmaceutical drugs have saved countless lives and helped to improve the quality of life for millions of people. However, in far too many instances, use of these drugs has resulted in severe health complications – and even death. Many drugs carry hidden risks that manufacturers did not properly communicate to either the healthcare professionals who prescribe the medications or their patients who consume those medications.

There is a way you can fight back if you or a loved one has suffered harm due to pharmaceutical greed – by filing a lawsuit.

The law firm of Baron & Budd may be able to help if you have suffered health complications after taking a prescription drug or over-the-counter medication. Our attorneys have represented people across the country for more than three decades, helping to protect their rights and also helping them obtain the compensation they deserve for the suffering they have experienced.

A Track Record of Success

Our law firm has represented individuals against some of the largest, most powerful pharmaceutical companies in the world – and helped them obtain millions of dollars in compensation as a result. We played an important role in helping achieve a $1.275 billion settlement in a case involving the drug Fen-Phen, which caused pulmonary hypertension and heart disease in many people.

In addition, we represented multiple states in a case against GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer of the diabetes drug Avandia. We were able to help bring about a $177 million settlement on behalf of people who suffered severe cardiovascular complications after taking the drug.

Helping People Fight Back Against Potentially Dangerous Medications

Baron & Budd represents clients who have been harmed by a wide variety of medications. These are just a few of the types of cases we are investigating.

Diabetic Drugs – Invokana, Jardiance and Farxiga are in a class of drugs known as sodium-glucose cotransporter-2, or SGLT2, inhibitors. Diabetics use these medications to help manage blood sugar levels. But these drugs have been linked to a serious condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis, which can be life-threatening. SGLT2 inhibitors are designed to remove excess sugar through urination. However, in some instances, it can result in the accumulation of acidic waste products in the blood and urine known as ketones. When too many ketones accumulate, diabetic ketoacidosis can be the result.

Blood Thinners – Blood thinning medications such as Xarelto and Pradaxa have been linked to excessive bleeding that can be fatal. These are among the “new generation” of blood thinners that compete with Warfarin, a medication that has been around since the 1950s. The newer blood thinners are marketed as a superior alternative because users do not need to be monitored nearly as often as Warfarin users.

The problem with Pradaxa, Xarelto and the other “new breed” blood thinners is that there is no antidote should someone using the drug experience severe bleeding. A doctor can administer large doses of frozen plasma or vitamin K to a Warfarin user in order to slow bleeding – but this option is not available for Pradaxa or Xarelto users.

“Low-T” Drugs – Low testosterone, or Low-T, drugs have been marketed as the wonder cure for many of the negative aspects of getting older, such as decreased muscle mass, a lack of energy and a reduced sex drive. However, these medications have been linked to potentially deadly complications, including strokes, heart attacks, blood clots and other problems.

Chemotherapy Drugs – The popular chemo drug Taxotere was labeled and advertised as having less side effects than its competitors, so it was widely prescribed. However, new studies now indicate that Taxotere causes alopecia, or permanent baldness along with other startling side effects.

Baron & Budd has represented clients in cases involving several other dangerous medications as well. These include:

  • Benicar
